Violence is rising within our communities and our schools are no exception.
According to World of Children, over 3.2 million students are bullied every year. And this number doesn’t only refer to emotional bullying or cyberbullying. It encompasses various forms of conflict, from verbal bullying to physical conflicts.
These escalations turn schools, which are designed to be safe spaces for learning, into toxic environments that stunt growth and hinder learning.
This rising epidemic is without a vaccine and its symptoms can be often hidden from teachers and other authority figures. It is therefore up to students to look out for each other and intervene to assist their schoolmates.
Elite Learners, Inc. Conflict Mediation for youth is an interactive program designed to equip students within the public school system with conflict resolution skills. As part of our Cure Violence Initiative, we aim to furnish students with the necessary skills they need to be mediators.
Through role-playing activities, we help students uncover underlying issues that lead to conflict and how to resolve them. We teach them the importance of communication in conflict resolution.
At the end of the day, students are taught to identify triggers and the potential consequences of negative actions.
