House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is on hand to help donate 100 laptops to Elite Learners.
Elite Learners is an anti-violence organization geared toward providing educational and community-based support for children.
Jeffries was joined by leadership from Charter.
“Spectrum and Charter are partnering with Elite Learners, an incredibly important community organization, to bring laptops to the young people of this community and ensure that they have the tools necessary to be successful in their educational pursuits,” Jeffries said.
“Communication technology, is it, right? That’s the era that we’re in and our young people need that in order to communicate, to do their schoolwork - in order to just learn and grow and flourish - apply for jobs,” Camara Jackson, CEO of Elite Learners, said.
“When I have schoolwork, I need to do it and it lets me download anything that I need - and video games,” said Jeremiah Tavares, a 5th grader from P.S./I.S. 184.
“This laptop means a lot to me because it can help me to do my schoolwork and get into the next grade,” said Gavin King, a 5th grader from P.S./I.S. 184.
Charter is the parent company of NY1.
